January - Fascinating Heads - Eliza K

Kate, who trained as a milliner, gave a fascinating talk about her work making bespoke handmade hats and headpieces for clients, using silk, sinamay, straw and felt, with wire work and feather decoration. Members had great fun trying on a variety of hats and fascinators!

February - Walthamstow and the Film Industry - Barry Bliss
Barry, a Walthamstow-based film director and scriptwriter, talked about the silent film industry in Wood Street Walthamstow, which operated from 1910 to 1926.
March - Girlguiding Today - Sharon Applin and Kathy Briggs
Girlguiding provides opportunities for girls aged from 4 - 25 to participate in activities and events that enable them to develop their potential, by challenging themselves, trying new things, having adventures, learning leadership skills and making friends.
April - Spring Fever - Members' Spring Social
May - Wanstead WI Annual Meeting and Voting on NFWI Resolutions
The existing Committee was re-elected for the coming year. Members voted to support the resolution Mental Health Matters, for national discussion, and enjoyed a sweet-themed quiz.
June - "50s Memories are made of this" History on the Move - Pat and Barbara Elliott
Pat and Barbara, founders of History On The Move, were experienced primary school teachers with a passion for history. They entertained us with a fascinating account of the 1950s, sharing reminiscences and showing us some artefacts from the time. We had a 50s quiz and even some 50s style refreshments.
July - Growing food - a workers' cooperative - Organiclea
Organiclea is a community food project based in north Chingford. It produces and distributes food and plants locally, and inspires and supports others to do the same. Two members of the co-operative explained how the co-operative works and its mission to bring people together to take action towards a more just and sustainable society.
August - Summertime - the living is easy - Members' Summer Social

Members enjoyed a tropical-themed social evening.
September - Greenwich, its Royal Women and the Royal Hospital School - Jacky R
Jacky gave us a fascinating talk about some of the history of Greenwich, focusing on the royal women. She encouraged us to visit the Painted Hall.
October - Seasonal Decorations - Cathy U
Members made Christmas wreaths using fabric strips. Thanks to Cathy and her helpers who prepared the fabric!
November - 10th anniversary party, vintage style
Members enjoyed a fabulous party to celebrate ten years of Wanstead WI, with food, music and dancing 40s style, led by the Dixie Diners! Thank you to the local businesses who donated generous prizes for the raffle. Many thanks to all the Committee and party planners for a very successful and fun evening.
