Quilts are not just for beds Speaker: Janice Gunner Janice is a Leytonstone-based quilter, stitched textile artist and City and Guilds accredited teacher. Janice started young with her sewing and embroidery and always found it hard to throw away left-over dressmaking fabrics. Using them creatively in patchwork and quilting was the natural solution – and today her skills in dyeing, piecing and quilting have ensured her work a place in the collection of the UK Quilters Guild and in private collections in the UK, France and the US. Janice’s first book – Shibori for Textile Artists (Anova/Batsford) was published in 2006, and from 2005-2008 she was President of the Quilters Guild. Today she specialises in teaching patchwork and quilting internationally, nationally and in City and Guilds classes up to diploma level in the UK, France and Spain. |

Nadia Idle, Activism & Outreach Officer at War on Want, gave an enlightening and inspiring talk about the campaign to tackle sweatshops, what it’s achieved, and how far it has to go. She also explained why it is not good enough to boycott individual stores, and why we should all be talking about it to everyone we know. If you haven’t yet written to your MP to support the campaign, do pick up a postcard at the next meeting.
